Volume and Surface Area

What is Volume and Surface Area ?
Volume and Surface Area

The surface area of any given object is the area or region occupied by the surface of the object.

Whereas volume is the amount of space available in an object.

In geometry, there are different shapes and sizes such as sphere, cube, cuboid, cone, cylinder, etc. Each shape has its surface area as well as volume.

Formula for Cube ?

  • Volume = $(side)^2$
  • Surface area = $6s^2$
  • Partial Surface area = $4s^2$
  • Diagonal = $\sqrt{3}s$

Cuboid formulas

  • Volume: $l × b × h$
  • Surface area = $2 (lb + bh + hl)$
  • Curved Surface area = $2h(l+b)$
  • Diagonal = $\sqrt{l^2 + b^2 + h^2}$

Formulas for Sphere

  • Volume = $\frac{4}{3}$
  • Surface area = $4πr^2$

Hemisphere formulas

  • Volume: $\frac{2}{3}πr^3$
  • Curved Surface area = $2πr^2$
  • Total Surface area = $3πr^2$

Cylinder formulas

  • Volume: $πr^2h$
  • Curved Surface area = $2πrh$
  • Total Surface area = $2πr (h + r)$

Formua for Cone

  • Volume = $\frac{1}{3}πr^2h$
  • Slant height = l = $\sqrt{h^2 + r^2 }$
  • Curved Surface area = $πrl$
  • Total Surface area = $πrl + πr$
